Manually Removing a Linked vCenter Server from the ADAM Database

This issue can happen when a linked vCenter server is forcibly removed from the vSphere Infrastructure Client, but not successfully removed from the ADAM database.

To resolve this issue, remove the linked vCenter server entry from the ADAM database:

1. Go to Start > Programs > ADAM.

2. Start ADSI Edit.
      a. Click Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > ADSI Edit.

      b.Right-click ADSI Edit and select Connect to.

3. Under Connection Point, select Select or type a Distinguished Name or Naming Context and type:
         dc=virtualcenter,dc=vmware,dc=int

4. Under Computer, select Select or type a domain or server, enter the primary vCenter servers NetBIOS name and click OK.

5. Expand the tree items in the left pane and find the entry OU=Instances.

6. Select Properties for each instance found and locate the vmw-vc-URL to determine the NetBIOS name of the vCenter Server you want to remove. (Right Pane)

7. Delete instances of old linked mode vCenter Servers.

8. Restart vSphere Client.
