To reconfigure Update Manager after a change of the IP address of the vCenter Server system with which Update Manager is registered, you can run the Update Manager installer again and use the Repair option. If you use Update Manager 4.0 or later, you might not have the Repair option, and so you might not be able to change the vCenter Server IP address by using the installer. To reconfigure Update Manager after a change of the vCenter Server IP address, perform the following steps.
- Log in to the machine on which the Update Manager server component is installed.
- Stop the Update Manager service. Right-click My Computer and select Manage. In the Computer Management window, right-click VMware Update Manager and select Stop.
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Update Manager installation folder. The default path in 32-bit Windows is C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager The default path in 64-bit Windows is C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager Edit vci-integrity.xml in a text editor to find the XML tag
old_vCenter_Server_IP_address and replace the old vCenter Server IP address value with the new one. - Save and close the file.
- Start the Update Manager service by right-clicking VMware Update Manager in the Computer Management window, and selecting Start.
This is from one of VMware's KB articles. One of the other challenges I ran into while installing VUM is Proxy Setup. Something to be careful about is virus scanning on proxies. I actually had to put an exclusion on the Virus Scanning for the VUM update files. The system kept timing out when it downloaded the actual patches. I'm still looking into ways to fix this. More info to come soon.
